The City Council of Madrid (Spain) Creates an Initiative to Give Visibility to Essential Businesses and Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The City Council of Madrid (Ayuntamiento de Madrid) is the top-tier administrative and governing body of Madrid, the capital and biggest city of Spain. The City Council is composed of three bodies; the Mayor who leads the City Council and the executive branch of it, the Governing Council (Junta de Gobierno) which is the main body of the executive branch composed of the Mayor and the council appointed by him and the Plenary, a democratically elected assembly which represents the people of Madrid. The current Mayor of Madrid is José Luís Martínez Almeida since June 2019.

The “COMPARTAMOS BARRIO” initiative created by the city council of Madrid (Spain) is an initiative launched to make visible the commerce and essential services during COVID-19, operational in each district. In addition, it also highlights the neighborhood associations that are lending their support and solidarity to many Madrileños in this crisis.

Its objective is to become an ecosystem of proximity that serves to join forces of associations and companies and thus supply the population- which for various reasons cannot go out on the street or cannot face the situation on its own. Merchants of products from Madrid, the couriers, the transporters, or from the solidarity neighborhood association, can register their trade for free on the platform created for the initiative.

The initiative was created in 2020 and is still active today.
