The OutRight Action International, an organization that works alongside activists, policymakers, key organizations, and targeted communities to fight the discrimination and violations the LGBTIQ+ community faces worldwide has granted an LGBTIQ+ Emergency Fund to implement COVID-19-related projects. The organization particularly targets healthcare for the LGBTIQ+ group impacted by COVID-19. The actions listed include: providing food and housing, offering support for victims of domestic violence, and documenting human rights violations, among other difficulties this group is facing during the pandemic.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the organization was able to collect data about the impact of COVID-19 on LGBTIQ+ communities globally, advocating for equitable and LGBTIQ+-inclusive emergency relief efforts by governments and the United Nations agencies. The organization also launched a series of interviews throughout the communities worldwide and its responses; hosting a webinar series about a variety of issues related to COVID-19 and the LGBTIQ+ community.
Furthermore, Outright Action has received more than 2,500 applications to the Fund from communities in need in 131 countries. To support those struggling to meet the increased demands from the LGBTIQ+ communities and help them to implement local initiatives, the organization has distributed approximately USD $3.2M in grants to 310 groups in more than 101 countries.
