The Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) Launches Special COVID-19 Kilo Operation

The Spanish Federation of Food Banks(FESBAL) is a non-political and non-denominational entity, founded in 1995, to fight against hunger and poverty through food distribution to people in need, also contributing to improving the environment.
The COVID-19 crisis has broadened the profile of people who are facing food insecurity. It is not only people living in severe poverty, but also middle- or low-income families, and young people who have lost their jobs due to the crisis that is impacting different sectors of the economy.
FESBAL and the Foundation Accenture launched a SPECIAL COVID-19 KILO OPERATION to avoid stock shortage in its warehouses and called on citizens and institutions to encourage online food donations. The objective is to collect 1,000,000 kilos of basic, non-perishable food from the pantry and the donations are made through the “Banco de Alimentos” website. With a mínimum contribution of only 2 Euros, food banks can provide basic food for three people for a whole day and with a contribution of 20 Euros, a small family can be supported for a whole week.
