Addressing COVID-19 and Climate-Driven Hunger in Guatemala

The Non-profit organization Maya Health Alliance|Wuqu’ Kawog, is a dedicated community-based organization that delivers comprehensive and high-quality healthcare to indigenous communities in rural areas of Guatemala. In these communities, half of the people only understand and speak the Maya language, and many indigenous people in the area experience discrimination and physical barriers to access quality healthcare.

Maya Health Alliance is focusing on promoting projects in the areas of child nutrition, maternal-child health, women’s health, and chronic disease, that are being severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and also by climate change. During 6 months the project will partner with the families in the community to treat and prevent the most common issues faced by the local children, like infection and malnutrition, focusing on children under 2.5 years of age, providing education and support for children’s development. The organization believes that everyone should have the opportunity to achieve the best possible health, no matter where they are born or what language they speak.
