Protecting Rohingya Older Refugees during the Pandemic

The subsidiary charity, Age International, is dedicated to helping and empowering older people. It was founded in 1961 focusing on helping aged refugees, especially those from the poorest regions in the world, treating them with dignity, promoting safety, and healthier and happier life. The COVID-19 pandemic particularly impacted impoverished countries but those already facing humanitarian emergencies suffer the most. In Myanmar, the older Rohingya refugees who fled from the conflict in the country in 2017, who were already experiencing various health challenges were harshly impacted by the global health crisis, and with COVID-19 spread, their health conditions were put are at an even higher risk and danger.

Age International takes an initiative to address such issues by providing guidelines, conducting activities to maintain proper hygiene and prevent the virus from spreading, and also providing age-friendly space where they installed handwashing points. It is an important support for older people and puts their health as a priority focusing on prevention to lessen the impact of the virus in their lives.
