The Rath sisters created Global Guru to tutor children for free
Krisha Rath was a 12-year old high school student when she was already tutoring younger students and had the idea of creating a free tutoring service as a result of her love for teaching. Together with her sister, Divya Rath, who is currently an undergraduate student at George Washington University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience with a minor in Public Health, they created Global Guru, a tutoring program that offers free tutoring services to students in different parts of the world.
The sisters and their family recognized that many students have no financial means to pay for or gain access to tutoring. The goal of Global Guru is to reach as many children as possible and give them better learning opportunities and support. The Rath sisters believe that “education is something that has the potential to shape a child’s entire future if they can develop a love for learning.”
Today, Global Guru is helping students in South Korea, rural villages in India, Australia, China, and the United States. Although it was a small operation in the beginning with only a few people, today it has more than 100 team members that work on different aspects of the program, including curriculum development, social media management, scheduling management and website development. An increasing number of students have signed up for the program since the pandemic due to school closures. The Global Guru tutors have not only witnessed their impact on children’s learning but also won over their student’s hearts.
