The Hunger Project
The Hunger Project is an international non-profit organization that aims to end hunger and poverty in the world. The organization pioneers and advocates for sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies to create an impact worldwide. All Hunger Project Programs are based on the same 3 pillars: (1) start with women (2) mobilize communities and (3) engage local government. First, women are important action takers in the Hunger Projects Programs. Women are engaged players in the well-being of any community. As such, the Hunger Project believes that empowering women is essential to end world hunger and poverty. Second, the Hunger Project helps to build skills and leadership in a community, providing training in literary, numeracy, local law, nutrition, to name a few. An important action is the Vision, Commitment and Action Workshops that are organized at the village level. Through these workshops, communities are brought together to create a vision specific to them and plan projects for the next 3 months based entirely on local resources. Lastly, the Hunger Project works with the local government to ensure effective help from the officials. The Hunger Project reaches rural communities across continents of Africa, South Asia and Latin America, helping more than 16 million people end their hunger and poverty and empowering 464,000 women to become impactful action takers. The organization continues to work through COVID-19 to improve living situations worsened by the pandemic.
