The ATD-Fourth World Organisation is Taking Solidarity Action to Tackle the Vulnerable Situation of People in Extreme Poverty
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Philippines, the government imposed strict lockdown measures with curfews and stay–at–home orders. Strong police and military presence in the streets ensured people followed these restrictions, causing an abrupt and unprecedented disruption in the lives of all Filipinos, especially those living in extreme poverty. ATD Philippines uses its local networks in responding to the urgent situations through fundraising campaigns, donations of food and other essential items, and distributing these supplies to people in need. Facilitators identified families most in need, prioritizing them for provisions, and are the ones providing inputs on the best delivery methods. In partnership with Caritas Manila, another non-profit, ATD was able to purchase and deliver 341 food packs, which helped more than 94 families in different regions of Philippines.
