The Association for Gender Awareness & Human Empowerment

The Association for Gender Awareness & Human Empowerment (AGAHE) is an organization based in Pakistan. Its main goal is to create an enabling environment for vulnerable segments of society, where they can reach their full potentials, improve their lives, and have equal opportunities to safeguard their rights.

AGAHE’s core thematic areas include Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, Health & Nutrition, Sustainable Livelihood, Governance, and Disaster Risk Reduction. Since its creation in 2007, AGAHE has been working in various parts of Punjab, aiding members of local communities — especially women– to take part in the local decision-making process and raising awareness about hygiene, health, education, and other social issues.

As the impacts of the pandemic aggravated some of Pakistan’s pre-existing humanitarian issues, AGAHE has been responding to the COVID-19 emergency in the district of Lahore, Kasur, Muzaffargarh, and Multan by partnering with institutions,  such as WaterAid Pakistan. The organization raises public health awareness through SMS services, FM radio, Cable TV messages, brochures, banners, and billboards.

The organization is also providing mobile hand-washing stations and menstrual hygiene kits, as well as facilitating access to quarantine centers and healthcare facilities for members of vulnerable communities. AGAHE is also a part of PepsiCo’s #MillionsOfMeals campaign. Through this initiative, the Association is now able to distribute ration packs to 12 districts of the Punjab Province.
