NURSING HOMES IN BRUSSELS CALL UPON PEOPLE TO HELP PATIENTS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

During the lockdown, seniors living in nursing homes are particularly affected by the distancing measures adopted to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. With the prohibition of visits many of the residents have no relatives to call or to bring them small packages to alleviate their isolation. In Belgium, a called for citizen solidarity from five nursing homes suggest simple ways people can help. They ask for people to write letters to residents and for children to send them their drawings. Sweet things to eat or drink, and flowers to decorate rooms and common areas are also welcome. Finally, they need volunteers to do their shopping. The appeal to solidarity may help to brighten up their daily lives and alleviate the impact of the pandemic in the daily life of this vulnerable population.
