MipymeLocal by CUNORI in Guatemala empowers Female Entrepreneurs
In eastern Guatemala, the “Center for the Promotion of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises” (PROMIPYME) of the Eastern University Center (CUNORI) advises and helps enterprises of different sizes with the goal to support small local businesses, particularly those run by women in Guatemala. The organization is especially important for the new entrepreneurs who start their businesses with only empirical knowledge but without any business background. These entrepreneurs receive advice and training from the organization, which allows them to reinvent their businesses or reduce their costs. Facing the impact of COVID-19 and planning on recovery, CUNORI provides specialized support especially for rural women entrepreneurs. Supported by the United Nations Women, the organization developed MipymeLocal, a virtual platform that allows micro, small and medium-sized enterprises – especially those led by women – to sell their products and services and build their business online. MypymeLocal aims to encourage local consumption of products and services, which helps women and families to maintain their sources of income, since 57% of the more than 130 registered companies are led by women in this area. MipymeLocal also functions as an online store that enables the sustainability of business during the pandemic.
