KidsSave reminds foster children that they are not forgotten in COVID-19
In the United States, 442,000 children are in the foster care system—a likely under-estimated number due to unreported cases. Without stable, permanent families, foster children face a mountain of challenges to succeed. They can also easily fall through the cracks amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as their lives become even more isolated, unpredictable, and anxiety-inducing.
KidSave is a non-profit organisation based in the United States that helps foster children to find permanent families. During COVID-19, it started the “COVID-19 Impact Fund” that sends foster children care packages every month to remind them that they have not been forgotten. The organisation hopes that these care packages tell foster children that they are loved and worthy, which might help them during these testing times. KidSave asks for donations and promises to transform each donation, small or large, into a care package that will bring a smile to a foster child. Moreover, the donations help KidSave continue to operate during the pandemic and sustain their other routine initiatives, such as providing activities for caregivers and children.
One of the many children who received KidSave’s care packages is David. David is a sweet, shy, and thoughtful 10-year-old. He is kind and very artistic. He is doing well in school, and his favorite subject is math. David “dreams of traveling to the United States to meet his forever family.”
