French Initiative « Le Marché Vert » connects People to Rural Producers during the Lockdown

During the first lockdown, many small farmers and rural producers in France faced challenges of selling their production, given the closuring of all street markets – main distribution and selling channel for their products. The online platform “Le Marché Vert” created an interactive map, which lists all initiatives in France regarding farm sales, distribution and collection points, cooperative grocery stores and anyone wanting assistance in selling their stocks.

The map is collaborative, which means that everyone can share the initiatives they know of in their neighborhood and allows others to support small producers as well. Using these new distribution channels means supporting agriculture that respects people but also a virtuous economic model, where products are sold at fair prices while paying the farmers fairly.
