Empowering Poor Women to Thrive During the Pandemic in India
The organisation Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in India and founded in 1992. They work on promoting women’s empowerment through education, entrepreneurship skills development, human rights, and sustainable development promotion for women and girls in marginalized and deprived rural communities in India. These very poor areas are being hit even harder by the effects of the pandemic, therefore helping them to develop independence (especially financial) is crucial to overcome the difficult local situation.
The organisation has a project called “Post COVID Relief” focusing on skill development training for women providing them with means of sustainable livelihood, promoting the economic empowerment of underprivileged women in rural communities in India. In these regions, women are likely to depend on their husbands or families for their needs and have low or no access to education. The project offers training in various areas that may help women gain more independence and build up their confidence. The main objectives of the project are: develop leadership and handicraft skills (like sewing, knitting, bag making, etc.) through the strategic use of local resources and other innovative solutions, reduce poverty and improve their social life and promote social inclusion.
