Buligan Ko, Eskwelahan Ko Project: A COVID19 Youth Response to Education

Responding to the great challenge of the upcoming school year of 2020-2021 caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, distance learning has been initiated by the Department of Education of the Philippines to ensure continuous learning of students despite COVID-19.

For distance learning, the Department of Education recommended several learning modalities. A needs assessment survey at different elementary and secondary schools in the Province of Capiz, composed of 16 municipalities, revealed that most elementary and secondary schools in the province will adopt the Blended Learning modality. The Blended Learning modality is a combination of Online and Modular Learning.

Modules are the primary learning materials in modular learning, and internet access is the primary tool for online learning.  However, both elementary and secondary schools are challenged with a lack of or limited financial resources for the materials and supplies for the Learning Modules and WIFI modems for Online Learning.

Facing the aforementioned situation in the education sector in the province, the Youth Advocates for the Philippines of the Province of Capiz initiated the “Buligan Ko, Eskwelahan Ko Project: A COVID 19 Youth Response to Education. “

The “Buligan Ko, Eskwelahan Ko Project: A COVID 19 Youth Response to Education” is a project that aims to gather in-kind or cash donations for bond papers, printer ink, WIFI modems, and printers for the Modules and Online Learning. The project also aims to collect in-kind or cash donations for antiseptic alcohol, hand sanitizers, and reusable and washable facemasks for the sanitation kits prepared for the faculty in schools.
