Action contre la Faim and UNICEF-France are deploying actions to provide access to water and hygiene to isolated people, children and the most vulnerable families in Paris and its metropolitan areas

A joint effort between Action contre la Faim and UNICEF-France intends to help children and families living in vulnerable situations in metropolitan Paris, for access to water and hygiene items in order to comply with the social distancing and hygiene recommendations. Both organisations combined their expertise to help raise awareness about the importance of the proper hygiene gestures and also distributed 1,350 hygiene kits to meet the needs of families and individuals. Also, hand washing stations have already been installed along with food distributions points.

According to the UNICEF, 40% of the population living in the most precarious areas in the region of Ile-de-France are children. After the pandemic children are even more exposed to the risks. The executive director of UNICEF France, Mr. Sébastien Lyon, states that this is a first for UNICEF to intervene in a country like France. The goal is not only to help with access to water and hygiene items, but to also offer support in mental health, with particular attention to the protection of children in the context of the pandemic.
