Action Against Hunger responds to COVID-19 in developing countries

Food shortages and malnutrition are issues that plague many developing countries. The pandemic forced many countries into a complete or partial lockdown. The resulting global disruption further broke the food supply chain that is important for providing food security. As a result, some countries face threats by hunger that is costing more lives than those lost to coronavirus infection. Going forward, the future does not look optimistic. The United Nations estimates that COVID-19 might lead to nearly twice as many people suffering from hunger in the year 2021.

Action Against Hunger is a global organisation that has long been helping communities alleviate the suffering caused by food shortages. Hunger Against Hunger also supports health centers during the pandemic, raises health- and COVID-19-related awareness, and provides essential medical and hygienic supplies. The organisation continues to work tirelessly in many countries to secure food supplies: Somalia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, India, Haiti, Jordan, Cameroon, Yemen, Nigeria, Chad, Iraq, and Ivory Coast.

For example, in Haiti, Actions Against Hunger has already led the fight against eradicating cholera for almost a decade. The same team is empowering Haitians to fight COVID-19. Partnering with UNICEF, Action Against Hunger has launched emergency responses and adopted additional measures to improve food security and livelihood programs.
